What lead work involves
Lead is the oldest waterproofing detail we still use because nothing has beaten it. Correctly coded, correctly sized and correctly fixed, a lead flashing outlives the roof it protects.
We cut and dress lead on site to the right code for the exposure, respect the recommended piece lengths so thermal movement does not split it, and wedge and point into the joint rather than smearing sealant over the top.

01992 245604Why has my lead flashing split?
Almost always because the piece is too long. Lead expands and contracts significantly, and an oversized sheet tears itself at the fixings. Replacing it in correctly sized pieces solves it permanently.
Can lead be repaired or does it need replacing?
Small splits can be lead welded. If the piece is oversized or fatigued across its length, replacement in properly sized sections is the only lasting fix.
